All Listening
2025
Location:
Kusnthalle Darmstadt
Situations, darmstadt ferienkurse 2025
Format:
Performative installation
Material:
Durational performance, score, acrylic glass
All Listening is an installation and performance piece unfolding across Kunsthalle Darmstadt, centering nine archival photographs printed on acrylic glass. Sourced from the Darmstadt Summer Course archive, the images—spanning from the 1960s to the 2000s—capture audiences suspended in the act of listening. These still moments become portals, as All Listening reimagines listening not merely as perception, but as a passage through time and space. Over the course of the exhibition, five activations are planned. In each, a performer is invited to take on the role of the “ultimate listener”—to listen, attentively and intentionally, to the works of other artists in the collective exhibition. Their subtle, choreographed presence echoes the postures captured in the archival images, creating a living mirror within the gallery. In this gesture, listening begins to dissolve the boundaries between past and present—between here and now and there and then.
With and accompanied by sound art works from: Anushka Chkheidze, Jana Irmert, Nicole L'Huillier, Robert Lippok, Svetlana Maraš
Global curation by: Carsten Seiffarth
